Some neat art work covers the pride of the north’s, latest offering.
Title track opener, Built To Last, is a cracker, with a perceptive thought provoker inserted. Hal Ketchum’s, Hearts Are Gonna Roll, revs along to lead guitarist’s, Derek Simpson’s first of 3 offerings, Dancing In The Fire. Featuring some gentle guitar licks, it does have a slightly dated ’70’s feel. Track 4, Rodney Crowell’s, ‘Til I Gain Control Again, is the complete reverse. A timeless, classic that the guys do a fabulous job on.
A blistering cover of Dwight’s, Fast As You Can, flows to Simpson’s second on the CD, Smiling At The Moon. The melody is exquisite, let down a little on lyrics. She ‘Ain’t Country, Simpson’s final cut, is a cute little toe-tapper, that would perhaps be best left as an instrumental.
Track 8, Keith Urban’s, Somebody Like You, is good, but falls short of the original and Don’t Mess Around With Jim is a good slot on the CD before Moulder’s pen slides the listener to, Back To The Country. Vince Gill’s, The Sun’s Gonna Shine hot foot’s the listener to Moulder’s, closer, The Love that I’m Feeling.
A stunningly gorgeous track, well worth the CD cover price alone, ends the Raising Cain road show on a high note.
Built To Last is an album, Brits should be raising the rafters to celebrate on. The musicianship is first rate, sound and mix excellent and George Moulder can raise the heat on anything he touches.
2 more of our lads are carrying the baton on song writing, turning out a couple of real belter’s.
Next time you catch a Raising Cain show request, Built To Last or The Love That I’m Feeling, and I promise you’ll be hard pressed to separate these from most of the current offerings from the US…Tremendous.
